Heartbreaking Update on Cargo Plane Crash: Fatalities Rises to 13
The tally of lives lost due to the UPS cargo plane that ignited and plummeted has now climbed to 13, according to official statements.
Mayor's Announcement
“On my way to the Workers’ candlelight gathering, I learned of a thirteenth victim that passed away as a consequence of the plane accident,” wrote the city mayor in a online message. “My thoughts are with the relatives, companions and co-workers of all who were taken in this week’s disaster. We will overcome this together.”
Victims Identified
An announcement from the carrier identified the officers aboard the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.
“Our sympathies reach out to all UPSer who has been affected and all in our local area – supporting you and ensuring you obtain the care and aid you need is our main concern,” the company’s message read.
Probe Findings
Government investigators disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s port side wing burst into flames and an engine fell off shortly after liftoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the plane to fall and explode into a fireball.
The National Transportation Safety Board has said it is examining the plane’s service record, that was in Texas for fixes a period ahead of the crash.
Aviation records indicated the jet was on the runway in the Texas city from the start of last month to 18 October.
“We are aware that this aircraft was there in that city,” remarked an NTSB member on later, not giving a exact time frame. “We will review every piece of service that was done, including the Texas time, straight to the time of the trip.”
Recovery of Vital Evidence
The pilot’s recorder and data recorder were recovered, and the motor was discovered on the tarmac.
The recorders – known as black boxes – were constructed to endure accident forces and severe temperatures from fires, and they looked to be undamaged when discovered within the wreckage. Investigators intend to examining information from the black boxes.
Jet’s concluding recorded information showed an altitude of that level and a rate of 210 mph before the accident.
Service History
According to Federal Aviation Administration records dated last month, a fissure on a component inside the tank area demanded repairs.
Singapore-based ST Engineering, which stated it offers structural repairs for UPS’s jet and runs a service location in that city, declined to speak, but stated it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities approached it.
Operations Resume
In the meantime, UPS Worldport activities restarted Wednesday night with its Next Day Air or nighttime operation, spokesperson a representative stated. Each of the three runways at the airport were also reopened.
The UPS package handling facility in Louisville is the company’s biggest. The hub employs over 20,000 people in the locality, handles 300 trips daily and sorts in excess of 400,000 parcels per hour.
Public Reaction
A gathering was organized on the night of 6 November by the regional worker’s group, which supports workers at the aviation hub, the organization’s primary air cargo hub.
Teamsters Local 89, which supports staff, commenced the memorial with a moment of silence at 5.14pm, the estimated moment of the accident before.
“This incident was so unexpected, so unforeseen,” the leader addressed the crowd of attendees. “No one had a opportunity to part to each of those who we have lost.”
