The Princess of Wales's Annual Yuletide Carol Concert Spotlights Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The large audience will enjoy a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The focus of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a message before the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to budding artists supported by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the organisation, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
