Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
